A pipeline is simpler than it sounds

Strip away the jargon and a sales pipeline is one thing: a list of leads, each with a stage and a next action. The stage tells you where it is; the next action tells you what to do. That's the whole system.

Step 1 — list every lead with a stage

Use plain stages that match your work:

  • Inbox — just came in, not yet qualified.
  • Proposal — quoted or scoped, waiting on the client.
  • Won — booked or paid.
  • Lost — passed or declined.

If a lead has no stage, give it one. A lead with no stage is a lead you will forget.

Step 2 — write the next action

For the earliest-stage leads, name the single next step:

  • Inbox → send the qualifying question.
  • Proposal → follow up on the quote (friendly, day 3).
  • Won → schedule the job.

One action per lead. The pipeline is now a to-do list you can actually work.

Step 3 — review it daily

The pipeline only works if you see it daily. A document you open once a week hides the same leads a notebook does. Make the pipeline the first thing you look at, not the last.

How TradeCRM helps

TradeCRM takes your trade and leads as "Name - stage" and groups them into that pipeline, then suggests the next action for the earliest-stage leads. You skip the spreadsheet architecture and get the view immediately.
